A message from Senior Minister, Dr. A.
Lynn Hill
Dear Friends,
Franklin First UMC is one of the most exciting
congregations anywhere. We are now in our 204th year of ministry and
are the oldest established congregation in Franklin, Tennessee. The history of
Franklin First goes all the way back to the establishment of the city of Franklin in 1799.
From the start, Franklin First has been a congregation with deep roots in the life
and vitality of historic downtown. This is a heritage of which we are very proud.
While we celebrate our history, we are moving ever
forward into the future to which God is calling us. The membership of Franklin First
continues to grow at an explosive rate. Attendance at Sunday school, Worship,
Wednesday Night Live, and a wide variety of discipleship enriching learning opportunities
is at an all-time high. Ministries to children, youth, and adults are second to
none. The financial base on which these ministries rest is strong, and the members of
Franklin First fully fund the program and outreach ministries. We continue to
struggle with space limitations because of this growth, but many creative minds are
working hard to provide adequate facilities for all who will call Franklin First their
church home. What and how this will be is a work in progress. We believe that
God has a plan and that this plan is being worked out in God's time. The future
before us is exciting beyond our imagining.
These are exciting times in the long and distinguished
history of our church. God is doing a new thing among us. While we celebrate
our history and give thanks to God for it, we lean ever forward into God's future.
We do this because we know without a doubt that the best is yet to be! Thanks be to
God!
