Great
Day of Service is held on the first Saturday in May
and involves hundreds of First UMC volunteers in a wide variety of
service projects in the community. Our volunteers visit
nursing homes, paint houses, clean up yards of disabled or elderly
persons, and work on many other projects. |

|
Meals on Wheels
- a program of the churches in the community who prepare noon meals
and/or delivers them in the community to persons who are elderly or
disabled. Our congregation is responsible for cooking and
delivering these meals the second week of each month.
Volunteers can choose Monday, Wednesday, or Friday to work.

temporary home for up to 12 teenage boys until they can return to
their parents or guardians. |

61st Avenue United
Methodist Church, our partner congregation in West
Nashville, is a small but vital congregation in an economically
disadvantaged community. Ministries with children and with
homeless persons are distinctive parts of its ministry. Pastor
Paul Slentz provides guidance for these ministries. |
| |
|
Room In The Inn
is a program in which this congregation welcomes twelve
overnight guests every Thursday night from November through March.
These homeless women, children, and men are picked up in Nashville
and transported to our church building. They receive a hot,
nourishing meal, have opportunity to shower, are provided with a
safe place to sleep, have access to articles of clothing they may
need, and are given breakfast and a sack lunch before being
transported back to Nashville. Each week a different adult Sunday
school class is responsible for hosting. |

|
Habitat for Humanity,
according to its mission statement, "works in partnership with God
and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop
communities with God's people in need by building houses so that
there are decent houses in decent communities in which people can
live and grow into all that God intended." Volunteers from the
congregation work with volunteers from partner congregations to
build a home for a carefully-selected family. |

opportunity for members and friends to send authentic, life-giving
gifts to a needy world to honor someone they love. |

Graceworks is
a cooperative effort of churches in Williamson County ministering to
persons in need in our community. A thrift store open to the
public provides low cost items and raises funds for other Graceworks
ministries. These ministries include emergency food
distribution and other emergency aid. Prior to Christmas, the
Graceworks Manger provides low cost and no cost gifts for families
with limited resources. |
