Dear Friends,

Once again we had incredible times of worship at FUMC.  To everyone who gives leadership and shares your God-given gifts with us, I thank you.  God is doing a new thing among us and it is exciting to watch in joyful amazement.

One of the strongest ministries at FUMC is that to our children.  We have over 800 children from nursery to the sixth grade.  A large number of them are regular in our Sunday School weekly.  To provide the necessary teachers, shepherds, special friends, and helpers requires an even larger number of adult volunteers.   Our fall semester begins on August 10th and we need volunteers at both the 9:00 and 10:30 Sunday School times.  I invite you to prayerfully consider becoming a part of this exciting ministry.  This is not just for parents of children in the program, but for everyone.  All the materials you will need will be provided and you will have excellent support from the FUMC Children's Ministry Staff.  You have the opportunity to literally change the life of a child.  Much of who I am today I owe to the many Sunday School teachers who guided my steps as a child.  I will assume that most of you can say the same thing, too.  Will you now become that person to another child?  For more information or to volunteer, please call Becky at 794-2734.  Both you and our children will be glad that you did.

Please remember the Habitat for Humanity House Build.  FUMC is working on a house in Spring Hill.  We need to have 25-30 volunteers this Saturday to do a variety of jobs. There is a wide skill level needed; highly skilled to not so much so.  This is a very important ministry in which we are involved, but it won't be the same without YOU.  To volunteer or for more information, please email Peder Jensen at pjensen@livejones.com.  What a great gift to give another, a place of their own in which to live.  Together we can make it happen.

Also, don't forget the Honor Flight Dinner on August 3 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  The cost is $20 for adults and $5 for children.  It is going to be a great night of delicious food and incredible entertainment. If you will need child care, please indicate on the Mission Menu or call the church office with age(s) of each child needing care.  We want to have adequate workers present for this event, but not more than we need.  If you are a WWII veteran and desire to go to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. at no cost, call Paul Fleenor at 591-0201 for an application.  Thanks to everyone for making this night a great success.

This Wednesday, July 16, marks the beginning of the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference at Lake Junaluska, NC.  I, along with five other nominee's for bishop, will be meeting with lots of people to share our vision for the UMC for the years ahead and how we would give leadership to get us there. This process has covered almost thirteen months, many meetings, travel to different parts of the country, casting a vision for ministry, and helping those who don't know us to get to know us better.  By the end of this week the new bishop will have been elected and the thirteen SEJ Bishops assigned to their annual conferences for the next four years.  I invite all of us to a time of prayer for the six nominees and the delegates entrusted with this election.  May it not be simply another political campaign, but a spiritual selecting of one to lead our beloved church to new heights of ministry.  Therefore, I ask that you do not pray for me to be elected or to not be elected, that would be to focus on what we want. Instead, I ask that we pray to be in agreement with what God wants, to be guided by God's Holy Spirit, and to know that nothing could be better than this.  I have given the outcome over to God and have complete peace.  When this process is over, I will know the place God has chosen for me to serve.  Knowing that is true there can be no doubt,  the best is yet to be !!!
     Thanks be to God!!!

Grace and Peace,

Lynn

Light the Way for a child in a few short weeks our new Sunday school year with children will be starting.  There are several classes in need of having people answer the call to “Light the Way”!  There is a particular need for 2 yr. old & 3 yr. old classes. “It takes a village”… Franklin First United Methodist Church is blessed to have many children and to have opportunities for these children to learn about God and be guided in their faith journey.  It takes ALL of us to be in ministry to and with children.  On Wednesday nights there are opportunities for children 3 years-old  through 6th grade that will need leadership beginning this fall.  Is God calling you to provide leadership for Veggie Connection, or Bible Zone Live on Wednesday nights?  Contact Becky or Sarah for more information or sign up on the Mission Menu.

SUMMER CHOIR—Adult FUMC worshippers Summer choir at FUMC is a great time to sing one Sunday or every Sunday. Our anthems are designed to be prepared and accomplished in the 30-minute rehearsal prior to each Sunday morning service in which the choir leads worship. Do check our weekly worship bulletin as in the summer months the choir has a relaxed Wednesday evening rehearsal schedule.

FirstSong sings at the 9:00 service in Sanctuary East each 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. FirstSong is designed to offer parents of young children an opportunity to sing with the choir, yet sit with their families.

Jenny and Reggie Young have completed their first CD of hymns for acoustic guitar and cello. The name of the CD is “Be Still and Know That I Am God,” and it is designed to do just that—to slow down and feel the presence of God. Reggie and Jenny have decided to donate the proceeds to Legacy of Faith. CDs on sale for $15 at the Church Office.

Please send cards and letters to Renee Settle’s son, Duke Pettit, who has been moved to a rehabilitation center in Atlanta. Address: Duke Pettit, Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30309.

In this season of spring cleaning and yard sales, please remember the children of 61st Ave. UMC and the surrounding area. We are hoping to distribute a book to every child from birth to age 18 during the Last Minute Toy Store. At this time we are collecting new or gently used books. Please place your books in the donation boxes on the 1st and 2nd floors of the Education Building or the Church Office. Thanks to all of you who have already done so. Call Nancy Armfield, 790-2905.
