Garden Ministry
The Garden Ministry started 3 years ago with the idea that we could impact the community in a whole new way. We had just acquired 107 acres of land that will be the future site of a new sanctuary. Instead of the land just sitting and waiting…there came a handful of volunteers and a vision. It was too late in the year for a garden, but it was perfect for pumpkins. So the story begins. In 2009 Jerry Bozeman loaned his tiller and opened up 3 plots where pumpkins seeds took root and produced a crop of pumpkins that staggered the mind.
This was the first of many season on the North Campus. In 2010 a full garden was planted with over 75 different types of vegetables. Each week over 1,000 pounds of produce went out to Graceworks, Waves, 61st Avenue United Methodist, Meals on Wheels and so many other organizations. It was just one way we could help meet basic needs in our community.
Every year the Garden Ministry grows and we know we’ll need more help, more trucks to make deliveries, more help to keep up with the vast variety of vegetables that will soon grace the tables of those in our community.
We invite you to join us. There’s something for everyone and it’s a perfect place to engage your kids in ministry.
