What if you could make a difference in one weekend? You can and it’s easier than you might think.

.

Jump in and give back to our community by joining us this year at Great Day of Service on Saturday, May 5, 2012.  We’ll get started at 7:00 a.m. in the Franklin First UMC Fellowship Hall with a light breakfast and communion.  Then we’ll venture out into the community and serve throughout the day. Project descriptions are from 2011, but should be close to what we’ll be doing this year.

Some of you may not be familiar with the Great Day of Service. The first Saturday of May will be the Great Day of Service.  On this day we offer many opportunities for you and your family to be involved in the ongoing mission work of this congregation. This article is to “prepare the way” for you to be involved. Beginning in mid March, you will find a list of all the projects online and can sign up for the project of your choice! Project chairs will be actively seeking volunteers within the next few months. We need at least 600 to 700 volunteers in order to complete all the projects we’ve committed to! That’s always a huge leap of faith, but this congregation has been incredibly faithful every year, and, indeed, we have “gathered to worship and scattered to serve.”

We gather in the Fellowship Hall at 7:30 a.m. for a light breakfast. There are some projects that don’t start until 9 or 10 and some are in the afternoon only. Just check out the sign up sheet for details. If times aren’t mentioned, then they will start right after breakfast and serve until you drop. Just kidding…you don’t have to work all day or even all morning. We are happy to have you work all day or a few hours. It is such a wonderful opportunity to meet lots of folks in our church family and become the hands and feet of our Lord as we humbly serve.

If you know of someone in the community who needs home repairs, a ramp built, a yard mowed or simply a visit on that day, please call me and we will add them to the list. Sarah McGinley 794-1276 or 337-6059 or email at sarahbmcginley@gmail.com.
