our most recent past

In the spring of 2007 a group of lay people from our congregation embarked on a journey to lead our congregation through the discovery and discernment of God’s vision for our church. In November 2007, we conducted a church-wide survey with over 500 respondents so we could learn what the needs and ideas of our congregation were as it related to God’s vision for our community of faith. This was followed by focus groups in January 2008 so we could clarify information from the surveys.

In February of 2008 the team, by now dubbed the “Matthew 28” team, went on retreat and began to articulate the mission and vision that was emerging from the prayer, conversations, and survey information. This was followed in the spring by “vision refinement” as the mission and vision were shared throughout our Sunday School classes which engage close to 900 people every Sunday morning.

By the fall of 2008, the Matthew 28 Team completed their task and the Vision and Mission of Franklin First United Methodist Church came into being. A Mission-Vision Steering Committee was formed to carry on the faithful practice of planning and implementing the long-term vision of our church. In 2009 our mission became “visible” in print and in the way we carry out the ministries of the church.

Today the Steering Committee meets bi-annually to worship, pray, discuss and discern our steadfast steps toward living our mission and vision.
