Our Future

Franklin First United Methodist Church will soon be moving to a new site to carry on the legacy that has been handed down to us for 210 years. It all began in 1799 when Abram Maury, the founder of Franklin, donated land for our first building. This means that Franklin First UMC is the oldest church in Franklin and is the same age as Franklin itself.

037Just after the Civil War in 1869, the congregation built our current church building making it one of the largest structures in Franklin at the time. It was designed to hold the 238 members and provide room for the growth they knew would come. With the economy in ruins and unemployment at an incredible level, our ancestors trusted God and took an amazing step of faith to build a facility in which to worship God well into the future.

With the amazing growth which has taken place in the last few years resulting in record attendance at worship and Sunday school, our current facility can no longer provide the space needed by the active congregation. With four Worship services in two sanctuaries and two Sunday school sessions, we have outgrown our current facilities. So we look to the future.

God has provided us with the North Campus. It is 107 acres on Mack Hatcher Parkway that provides unlimited space for future growth for Worship, education, mission, and service. Plans are being developed to provide facilities for the next 200 years. Like our ancestors, we now trust God and take this amazing step of faith believing the best is yet to be!!! Thanks be to God!!!

Grace and Peace,

Dr. A. Lynn Hill
